ACTIVITIES OF ABHINA MANAV KALYAN SAMITI (AMKS)

EDUCATIONAL RESEARCH AND AWARENESS PROGRAMME:

It is observed that many tribal and backward children between 6 to 12 do not go to school, reasons are many - school is very far, no sanitation facility in school, less awareness about the importance of education. Awareness programme for parents and teachers, with the help of local persons, elders and leaders was conducted. A Parents Teacher Association and Village Level Education Committee has been formed. This year similar activity has been started in the 18 villages. School Sanitation Hygiene Clubs are formed which helps in improving their hygiene behavior. The programmes implemented are monitored by professionals and volunteers from time to time.
The organization has received support from UNICEF, UNIFEM, Bachpan Bachao Andolan etc. for this work.

VOCATIONAL TRAINING PROGRAMMES:

The organisation has at village level organised Vocational Training Programmes for self-employment on need basis to electrician, diesel pump servicing mechanics, stitching and embroidery for women, vermi-composting for farmers, etc.

CAPACITY BUILDING TRAINING PROGRAMMES FOR SHGS:

The ABHINA MANAV KALYAN SAMITI (AMKS) organised capacity building training progrmame in Madhya Pradesh and Chattisgarh at village level for Self Help Groups on need basis. Conducted Capacity Building Training programme on Vermi Composting, Cattle Farming, Dairy, Poultry, Food Processing, Papaya and Medicinal Plant farming etc. The organisation has planned usages of local resources in the future through SHGs for better community development.

SELF HELP GROUP PROGRAMME:

Different groups of laborers, women, farmers and young men have been formed to bring awareness to them about the importance of strength and unity. Each group has ten to twelve members. 8 SHGs have been formed but at present some of them are without Bank Accounts. Each member of each SHGs contributes Rs.10/- to Rs.30/- per month. The group deposits the amount in the nearest rural or nationalised bank, members are allowed to take loans from their own groups at the rate of 2% to 5% per month. This is much below the 15% to 16% interest rate per month that they pay to the local Money Lenders and that too with some collateral like jewelry, crop or land.

WOMEN AWARENESS PROGRAMME:

ABHINA MANAV KALYAN SAMITI (AMKS) is running awareness programme in tribal areas. Meetings are organised with the help of local community leaders in different villages where women are made aware of their legal rights and informed in details regarding relief for handicapped, widow pension, old age pension, house repair relief, well digging, horticulture, mini savings schemes, etc. In these meetings guidance is given on filling-up of various application forms, address of concerned Government and Semi Government offices and other data benefiting them. They are also encouraged to go to banks and other offices with out hesitation. Programme for health of mother, girl child education, safe motherhood, immunization, self-employment and savings awareness camps are held on a regular basis. The organization received monitory assistance from Women and Child Development Department, National Women's Commission, Mahila Arthik Vikas Nigam to conduct thel above programme on regular basis.
A special Awareness Programme for Women for Self Reliance, legal rights and leadership development was conducted in "Ujjainee Simhast Maha Kumbh 2004" aided by Samajkalyan Board, Bhopal
